A Satistied Woodcutter

1. A Satisfied Woodcutter

18-07-2022

Once upon a time, there was a woodcutter. He lived in a village. His village was near a forest. A river has flowed through the jungle. He used to cut wood from the forest every day and sold it in the market. By selling wood he maintained his family.

One day, he went to the forest to cut wood. While he was cutting the wood suddenly the axe fell into the river. The river was very deep and the current was very strong. So, he could not find his axe. For this reason, he started to cry.

Seeing this condition, a water god came to him and asked why are you crying? The woodcutter told him about his axe. Listening all he took pity on him. Then he dived into the river and came back from the water with a golden axe and told the woodcutter that is it your axe? If it is yours then you can take it. The woodcutter told the water god that this was not his axe.

After some time, the water god went down into the river and came back with a silver axe soon. The water god told the woodcutter to take it. But the woodcutter did not agree to take it because it was not his own axe.

Observing the mind of the woodcutter, the water god dived again into the river and came back with an iron axe. Seeing the axe the woodcutter was very happy. Then he rushed towards the water god and almost snatched the axe that was in his hand. The woodcutter was very pleased to get his losing axe back.

The honesty of the woodcutter touched the heart of the water god. He was very satisfied with him. So, as a reward, he gave the woodcutter both a golden and silver axe.

Getting the reward from the water god the poor and honest woodcutter was very happy. Then he went away.
